This remarkable three-part series tells the compelling story of Canada during the Second World War through the exclusive use of original colour movie footage of Canadians at war and on the home front. Much of the footage has lain unseen for decades in the storage rooms of the world's great archives and in the private home movie collections of ordinary Canadians across the country. The unique experience of Canadians at war and on the home front is told through personal stories — from letters, diaries and journals — telling a time of danger and of hope, of a nation with purpose and committment. The series begins in 1936 with stunning colour footage and personal recollections from the opening of the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France, and concludes with the victory celebrations of 1945, the beginning of the baby boom era, and a country and a people forever changed.
