The mysterious and devoutly religious community of Bountiful, B.C. allows journalist Hana Gartner a rare peek inside its confines, including an interview with leader Winston Blackmore. The community calls itself the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; it has no ties to mainstream Mormons. Members believe that God and the Canadian Charter of Rights condone polygamy. Some men have close to 30 wives and father up to 80 children, and teenage girls are married to men old enough to be their grandfathers. But former members tell of dissention within the community, and immigration officials are concerned about the flow of young women from the US bound for Bountiful for the express purpose of marriage.
